AGARTALA: A man in Tripura has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2019.
The conviction and sentence was passed by the Bishalgarh additional district and sessions judge court, situated in Sepahijala district of Tripura.

Khokon Debnath, the accused, was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 5-year-old girl in 2019.
The prosecution, led by Special Public Prosecutor Ripon Sarkar, detailed that the victim’s family had initiated legal proceedings by filing a case at the West Agartala Women Police station in Tripura against Khokon Debnath on August 2, 2019.
Subsequently, the case was transferred to the jurisdiction of Bishalgarh Police Station.

Khokon Debnath was promptly apprehended on August 4, 2019.
The prosecutor explained that the distressing incident occurred on August 1, 2019, when the minor girl visited Khokon Debnath’s residence to watch television, and she was allegedly subjected to sexual assault.
After meticulous examination, including the testimonies of 20 individuals and a substantial period of incarceration for the accused, Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Debashis Kar delivered the verdict.
Khokon Debnath has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, accompanied by a fine of Rs 1 lakh, marking a decisive legal response to the abhorrent crime.
