Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had a detailed meeting with the Chairman of the Airport Authority of India, Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra in presence Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan on Monday over various issues.

During the meeting modalities were discussed as to how runway length at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport can be increased, besides the renovation of the terminal building, hangar, etc. so as to bring the Airport, up to international standards.

A proposal in this regard would be prepared by Airports Authority of India at the earliest.

They also discussed about inauguration of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

It was decided that Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport will be formally inaugurated with its new interiors, depicting key tourism spots of Tripura like Neermahal, Chhabirnura, Matabari and Unakoti.

This would be done before the Durga Puja Festival.

It was agreed that Airports Authority of India would take up repair and renovation work of Kailashahar Airport urgently.

Foundation stone lying ceremony for this purpose would be held in the month of December, 2018.

It was decided that the 64 acre land available with Airport Authority of India at Khowai would be developed as a Joint Venture between Government of Tripura and Airports Authority of India for the greater public good.

It was also decided to develop a Heliport at Kamalpur. Airports Authority of India will submit a proposal in this regard, stated an official press communique.
