They had even submitted a memorandum stating their demand to the railway authorities, to which the latter had initially agreed.

However, the railway authorities later declared the particular road as being illegal and stopped all kinds of work from progressing further.

This led to wide protests by locals, with a few even lying down on the railway tracks.
