As many as eleven organisations under the banner of Forum for Protection of Journalists (Tripura) representing journalists, editors and owners rejected the SIT and demanded CBI probe into the killings of two Tripura journalists. The umbrella organisation of various journalist bodies organised protest rallies on Monday in capital Agartala besides various sub-divisional towns. Silent candle light procession, organised to press for the demand of CBI inquiry, passed through the streets of Agartala town on Monday.

Several non-government organizations also protested the killing of journalists and organised protest marches. Journalists also organised similar protests at Dharmanagar and met the police super for their security and demanded for CBI probe.

Sanit Deb Roy, development officer and registrar in-charge of Tripura University said, “The right of expression is completely strangled here so there is no law and order. In today’s procession people from all walks of life has taken part to condemn the murder of two journalists. It is unprecedented.”

They refused to accept SIT inquiry because the prime accused in Sudip’s murder is a senior SP level police officer and so only a CBI inquiry can bring out the truth.

Forum for Protection of Journalists is also contemplating to approach the High Court seeking a direction for a CBI inquiry into the murder of journalist in Tripura.
