AGARTALA: The Tripura high court has dismissed three petitions filed against Sailesh Kumar Yadav, the former district magistrate of West Tripura, concerning his actions during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

Yadav conducted raids on April 26, 2021, at Golab Bagan and Manikya Court marriage halls, targeting alleged violations of COVID-19 norms.

As a result of these raids, 31 individuals, including 19 women, were detained for breaching rules under the disaster management act.

Subsequently, two writ petitions and a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) were lodged against Yadav in the high court.

After a thorough hearing, a division bench comprising Tripura high court chief justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Arindam Lodh dismissed all three petitions.

Yadav’s lawyer, Samrat Kar Bhowmik, confirmed the court’s decision to PTI.

Sailesh Kumar Yadav is currently serving as the commissioner of Agartala municipal corporation in Tripura.
