Tripura government on Friday started distributing free 20 kg rice to each BPL families in ten remote blocks of the state.

Recently the state government during a cabinet meeting decided to launch the new scheme of providing free 20 kg rice per BPL families for two months to tide over difficulties of tribal people during monsoon.
The exercise would need 2,442 kg of additional rice. The decision shall benefit 61,058 indigenous BPL families in Chamanu, Damcherra, Dashda, Damburnagar, Karbook, Mungiakami, Raishyabari, Rupaichari, Silachari and Tulashikhar blocks.
During the sideline of the programme, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb told Northeast Now that his government would ensure that no family has to live without food. “The poorest person living in the remotest part of the state should also get the benefit of the various government schemes,” he said.

Deb said his government has also increased more than double man-days under the MGNREGA in the state which was stopped by the central government due to massive corruption during the earlier CPI-M led Left Front regime.
Food Minister Manoj Kanti Deb, Tribal Welfare Minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma and few local MLAs were present during the programme at the Mongiakami block.
