Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Tripura
The team spotted four suspicious individuals roaming in the area and intercepted them for questioning.

Agartala: Four Bangladeshi nationals, who allegedly entered India illegally after paying Rs 16,000 each to a border tout, have been arrested from Tripura’s Khowai district, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on specific input, a police team in plain clothes conducted an operation around 11:00 am in the Mahadev Tilla area under Khowai district.

The team spotted four suspicious individuals roaming in the area and intercepted them for questioning.

โ€œDuring interrogation, the suspects failed to produce any valid documents and later admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals, following which the local police station was informed,โ€ said OC Khowai Krishnadhan Sarkar.

Police subsequently took them into custody and arrested all four.

One of the arrested persons has been identified as Abdul Basik, a resident of Nabiganj district in Bangladesh. The other three, Khelal Mia, Samal Mia, and Abdul Mia, are residents of Moulvibazar district in the neighbouring country.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the four had crossed the international border with the help of a tout.

During initial questioning, they told police that they had paid Rs 16,000 each to facilitate their illegal entry into Indian territory.

Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the tout involved in the cross-border movement.

Further investigation is in progress, officials added.
