Agartala: The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala in Tripura apprehended five Rohingya immigrants for illegally crossing the India-Bangladesh international border.
The detained group comprised two women and three men, who were identified as Md Imran (22), Md Abu Jamir (20), Md Azizul Hossen (22), Yasmin Ara (20), and Raju Begam (35).
Authorities reported that the individuals intended to travel to various destinations within India, including Hyderabad and Jammu & Kashmir, by train.
The arrests were part of a coordinated effort by the GRP to curb illegal immigration.
Officials revealed that the group had entered India through unauthorized routes and planned to disperse across the country.
A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station in connection with the incident.
The arrested individuals are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
This incident is not isolated. In July of last year, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police detained eight people, including two Bangladeshi nationals, in Tripura for aiding illegal Rohingya immigrants to enter India using fake documents.
The crackdown was conducted under the directive of the Chief Minister and the supervision of DIG (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
The operation involved five police teams led by officers at the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) levels across various bordering districts of Tripura.
