Agartala: Tripura on Friday exported a consignment of organic agricultural products, including scented lemons, Kalikhasa aromatic rice, and Queen pineapples, to Dubai through Lulu Retail.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the initiative would help expand overseas markets for the state’s farmers.
The minister flagged off the consignment comprising 1,300 organic scented lemons, 182 kg of organic Kalikhasa aromatic rice, and 350 Queen pineapples.
Addressing the programme, Nath said the export marked another step towards expanding the international market for Tripura’s organic produce.
He said the scented lemons were supplied by Baramura Farmer Producer Company (FPC) in Khowai district, the Kalikhasa aromatic rice was sourced from Trishna FPC in South Tripura district, and the Queen pineapples were supplied by Khabaksa FPC in Gomati district.
Nath said Lulu Retail operates across the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and sources agricultural and food products from more than 85 countries.
“It is a matter of pride that Tripura’s organic produce has been included in Lulu Retail’s marketing network,” he said.
The minister said Tripura had recently exported 10,000 kg of organic dried bird’s eye chilli to Germany, adding that the latest consignment reflected the growing acceptance of the state’s organic products in overseas markets.
He said the state government was focusing on promoting organic farming, strengthening value addition, certification, branding, and market linkages to ensure better returns for farmers.
Referring to the recently concluded Destination Tripura Business Conclave, Nath said memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 23,539 crore were signed in the power sector by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL), while the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) signed agreements worth Rs 13,080 crore.
He said the agriculture and horticulture sectors attracted MoUs worth Rs 1,698.4 crore during the conclave, with more investment proposals expected in the future.
