According to his mother, who spoke to reporters at a state-run hospital in Tepania where Debnath was receiving treatment, “Part of his hair and eyebrows were burnt, and he was badly injured.”
She recounted the incident, stating, “My son was playing with a small spherical object, which exploded, causing him harm. I was washing clothes at the time and rushed to see what happened after hearing his cries and the explosion.”
A senior Tripura police officer stated that the matter is under investigation, but there is a possibility that the object might be an unexploded cracker, considering that a nearby house had recently hosted a wedding where numerous crackers were burst in close vicinity.
