As the protests by 10,323 terminated teachers in Tripura entered its fifth day on Friday, former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has demanded the State Government for immediate re-appointment of the terminated teachers.
Former Chief Minister and CPI-M stalwart Manik Sarkar said that the then Left Front Government in Tripura had created 13,000 posts to accommodate these 10,323 teachers after the Supreme Court had terminated their jobs in 2011, 2014 and 2017.

“13,000 non-teaching posts were created by the then Left Front Government, which have been cleared by the Supreme Court. These posts can be easily revived by a simple cabinet decision and the retrenched teachers can be accommodated in these posts,” said Manik Sarkar.

The Tripura High Court had ordered termination of services of 10,323 Government teachers, citing ‘discrepancies’ in the selection process.

Later, Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Tripura High Court.
Meanwhile, the terminated teachers are continuing with their indefinite sit-in demonstration at Paradise Chowmuhani in Agartala.
The agitating teachers rejected the offer made by Chief Minister Biplab Deb to compete for the vacant 9,000 posts in various Government departments notified by the State Government.

“Instead of agitating, these teachers must apply for the vacant jobs notified by the Government,” Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb said.
Reacting to the offer of Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Joint Movement Committee has termed the offer impractical.
