The main Opposition in Tripura, the Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) workers and leaders staged a protest rally in Agartala on Saturday demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants responsible on the attacks of party secretary Goutam Das and MLA Bhanulal Saha who was the former Finance Minister of the State.

On December 27 when by-elections to civic bodies were going on, the former Finance Minister and incumbent party MLA Bhanulal Saha was physically assaulted by miscreants operating under ruling BJP at Bishalgarh.

On the following day, CPI-M state secretary Gautam Das was also attacked at Bishalgarh on his way from Udaipur to Agartala close to Bishalgarh police station.

The Opposition CPI-M also alleged that the BJP miscreants had carried out the attack in order to reduce the civic by-polls to a farce.

Strongly condemning the twin attacks, the leader of the opposition demanded drastic action against the miscreants involved in the attacks.

The CPI-M also brought out a procession that marched through the streets of Agartala in protest against BJP’s alleged attacks on party leaders.

All senior leaders of the party including Bijan Dhar, Pabitra Kar, Sankar Prasad Dutta, Subrata Chakraborty, Motilal Sarkar, Shahid Chowdhury, Samar Adhya and Bipod Bandhu Das took part in the protest procession.
