Tripura: Congress, TIPRA leaders hold talks over ‘alliance’ for Lok Sabha polls

AGARTALA: In a significant political development preceding the Lok Sabha elections, Tripura Congress leaders, led by president Ashis Kumar Saha, engaged in a crucial meeting with Tipra Motha leaders to explore potential alliance prospects.

While both the Congress and Tipra Motha displayed signs of political manoeuvring, a statement by Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma added further momentum to the discussions.

Acknowledging the historical contributions of figures like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi to Tripura, Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma underscored the Congress’s understanding of the state’s issues.

Following the meeting, Debbarma revealed plans for Congress leaders to travel to Delhi for discussions with the party’s central leadership, while Tipra Motha leaders would engage in similar talks at their party level.

The meeting, held at the chamber of the Opposition Leader in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, primarily focused on political dialogue.

Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman stressed the importance of opposition unity in combating fascist forces, emphasizing the legitimate demands put forth by Tipra Motha.

Roy Barman highlighted the need for a collective decision beneficial to all Tripurians and noted the alignment of thoughts between Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the Congress.

He also mentioned prior discussions with CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury.

Following the meeting with Tipra Motha, Tripura Congress chief Ashish Kumar Saha described the discussions as ‘cordial’ and expressed readiness to pursue further dialogue with the party’s high command.

Saha affirmed Tripura Congress’s commitment to taking necessary steps to counter the BJP’s influence.
