Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has decided to convert the College of Agriculture into a Central Agriculture University.
At a review meeting of the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments held at the conference hall of the Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Tuesday, the Chief Minister asked the Principal Secretary of Agriculture department to initiate discussion with the Ministry of Agriculture to convert the College of Agriculture into a full-fledged University.
This, according to the Chief Minister, has been done with an aim to boost the agricultural and allied sectors.
Besides, the Chief Minister also enquired about the status of establishing four Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK).
He said four KVKs must be made operational well before the next general elections.
In the meeting, Deb also underlined the need to ensure optimum utilization of available land for agriculture and horticulture.
Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan, U Vankatesharlu, Principal Secretary of Agriculture, Principal Secretary of Finance M Nagraju and PCCF Dr AK Gupta were also present in the meeting.
