Everything is not good for Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb as a rift within the party has come out in open and nine MLAs of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are camping in New Delhi to meet the central leadership and ‘lodge a complaint against Deb seeking his removal’.
Among the group of MLAs include Sudip Roy Barman, Asish Saha, Sushanta Choudhury, Ramprasad Pal and Diba Chandra Hrankhawl.
In the 60-member Tripura Assembly, BJP has a total of 36 MLAs and its ally IPFT has 8 MLAs.
Speaking to the media the MLAs said that the 12 legislators, who are camping in Delhi, are unhappy with the Chief Minister and they want a change in leadership.
“We are hopeful of meeting the BJP national president JP Nadda and other senior organisational leaders,” said Sushanta Choudhury.
“We will discuss the current situation in the state. We would also try and meet the Prime Minister and apprise him of the situations,” he added.
Without mentioning the specifics, Choudhury further said, “Neither the government nor the party is moving in the way it should have.”
“We are far from fulfilling the pre-poll promises that were mentioned in the party’s Vision Document,” he added.
“Our main aim is to highlight these and several other things going wrong in Tripura to our central leaders,” he added.
Choudhury, however, did not mention directly if they are seeking a leadership change in Tripura and want Biplab Deb to be removed as the CM.
“We shall highlight the developments in Tripura and the rest of the decisions will be taken by the central leadership,” he further added.
