CM Saha made the announcement after the Agartala-Sealdah bound Kanchanjungha Express met with an accident earlier on Monday.

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday that the state government will cover medical expenses for all Kanchanjungha Express accident victims from the state.

An ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh will also be provided to the families of any deceased residents.

CM Saha made the announcement after the Agartala-Sealdah bound Kanchanjungha Express met with an accident in West Bengal earlier on Monday.

He also informed that he spoke with Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who assured all necessary support to the victims and their families.

“Spoke with Union Minister for Railways regarding the accident. Rescue operations are underway and all support will be provided to those affected,” Saha said in a statement.

The Chief Minister added that the state government has been continuously monitoring the situation since morning.

“Tripura Bhawan officials are instructed to visit the site and monitor rescue and rehabilitation efforts. The state government will bear the cost of treatment for all injured and provide Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia payment to the next of kin in case of unfortunate deaths,” he said.
