Ganja worth Rs 1 crore was seized by the BSF intelligence team of Gokulnagar sector jointly with the troops of 74 battalion BSF, Sonamura police, Tripura.
There were 1894 kgs of dry ganja hidden in 45 plastic barrels under earth in the forest area of Rampad Para under Melagarh police station of Sonamura subdivision in Sepahijal district of Tripura.
The market price of the seized ganja is around Rs 1 crore.
On the basis of information of BSF Intelligence team of Gokulnagar sector regarding stocking of huge quantity of dry ganja in the forest area of Rampad Para the special drive against interstate and cross border smuggling of ganja was led.
The joint operation party also included the BSF Dog squad and the Technical Team of 74 Bn BSF, which could successfully unearth the concealed consignment from underground.
The case is being investigated further by Melaghar police under the NDPS Act.
The recovery of huge quantity of Ganja is the fourth largest seizure of ganja during the past one and half months by BSF.
In similar type of operations conducted on January 4 2019, 12 Jan 2019 and 22 Jan 2019, jointly by BSF and Tripura Police, huge consignments of ganja weighing 28 quintals were recovered from different parts of Sonamura Sub Division of Tripura.
All these operations were conducted on specific intelligence inputs generated by BSF intelligence branch and the special operations were led by BSF officers who are fully committed to assisting the law enforcement agencies working in the state of Tripura to eradicate the menace of drugs.
