Speaking to Northeast Now, Sushil Das informed that the alleged incident took place at his residence after he returned home after distributing relief materials to four families, who are under isolation after having tested COVID-19 positive.

Sushil Das alleged that around 20 BJP workers led by local party leader Manish Chakraborty barged into his residence and questioned him as to why he had to distribute relief materials to people in distress.

This led to a hot altercation between Sushil Das and the BJP workers, which ultimately resulted in the saffron party karyakartas allegedly physically assaulting Sushil Das and his family members.

Sushil Das alleged that the BJP workers also physically assaulted his daughter-in-law.

“What’s the harm in helping people who are in distress?” questioned Sushil Das while speaking to Northeast Now.

Meanwhile, the East Agartala Women Police Station refused to lodge an FIR based on verbal communication and instead asked Sushil Das to come back with a written complaint.

Reacting to it, advocate Bhaskar Debbarma said, “According to the law, if the case is a cognizable offense, then the police are bound to register an FIR, even if the complainant is willing to file a case verbally.”
