A ruling BJP MLA in Tripura has stroked a major controversy after he asked the party workers in the state to attack Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and workers in “Talibani style”.

Tripura BJP MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik allegedly said that the saffron party workers must attack the central TMC leaders if they land at Agartala airport.

“…. TMC leaders from West Bengal are trying to damage the Biplab Kumar Deb-led BJP government in Tripura. I appeal to all of you to attack them (TMC leaders) in ‘Talibani style’,” the BJP MLA said.

However, the BJP has distanced itself from Bhowmik’s remarks saying that the BJP does not endorse Bhowmik’s statement.

Meanwhile, the TMC has come down heavily on the ruling BJP over the remarks of MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik.

Former MP and top TMC leader – Ritabrata Banerjee said: “At a time when the entire world is criticising the Taliban, an MLA, is heard asking to attack TMC leaders from West Bengal in ‘Talibani style’.”

“Arun Chandra Bhowmik’s remarks are highly condemnable,” Ritabrata Banerjee added.

Banerjee further demanded the Centre to clarify on if it supports the Taliban.
