Tripura’s dissident BJP MLA, Sushanta Chowdhury has resigned from the party’s state committee.
Chowdhury, who represents the Majlishpur constituency, announced his resignation from the BJP’s state committee at a press conference on Friday evening.
The resignation comes after BJP’s Majlishpur Mandal president Gouranga Bhowmik, who is very close to MLA Chowdhury, was removed from his position.
Gouranga Bhowmik was dropped as Majlishpur Mandal president on Thursday night.
The party replaced Bhowmik with Sumit Chakraborty as the new president of the mandal committee.
It has been learned that Sushant Chowdhury organized a youth rally a few days back.
The rally was organized in direct revolt against the state leaders of the ruling BJP.
Gouranga Bhowmik played an important role in making the rally a success.
Enraged by this, the state BJP leadership removed him from the post of Mandal president.
Within hours of the announcement, Sushant Chowdhury resigned from the state committee of the party.
He was an invitee member of the BJP state committee.
Talking to reporters, Sushanta Chowdhury said a group of state committee leaders is trying to obstruct them from doing anything.
It is impossible for him to work in such a condition, Chowdhury said, adding, “So I have quit from the party’s state committee.”
