Agartala: BJP Tripura Pradesh General Secretary Bipin Debbarma has urged the State Election Commission to reschedule the polling date for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, citing a clash with a major indigenous festival.
In a letter addressed to the State Election Commissioner, Debbarma stated that the polling, scheduled for April 13, coincides with Garia Puja, a significant traditional festival observed by indigenous communities across the state.
He said the festival holds considerable cultural and religious importance, with people participating in rituals, community gatherings, and festivities throughout the day. Holding elections on the same date could affect voter participation and create inconvenience for a large section of the electorate, he added.
Debbarma requested the Commission to consider rescheduling the poll to a suitable alternative date that does not coincide with the festival. Such a move, he said, would help ensure wider voter turnout and facilitate smoother participation in the electoral process.
He further expressed confidence that the Election Commission would take the matter into consideration in the interest of conducting free and fair elections.
The TTAADC elections are scheduled to be held on April 13, with the process overseen by the State Election Commission.
