The police have recovered 140 kg of dried cannabis from Boxnagar in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

The cannabis were recovered during a joint raid conducted by the police in collaboration with the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) at the Veluarchar village in Boxnagar.

The joint team of police and TSR jawans conducted the search operation after receiving information on cannabis being hidden in the village.

The police recovered five small drums and a large drum containing 140 kg of dried cannabis from the house of Hossain Ali.

The market value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 7 lakhs

The drums that were reportedly dug out from the kitchen of Ali’s house, had been stockpiled for sale at a much high price and were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh, police sources said.

The police have filed a case against Ali at Kalamchaura police station on Wednesday, though no one has been arrested so far.
