Tripura: 125 drug smugglers nabbed in West district since January

Tripura Police has launched a massive crackdown on illegal drug trade and smuggling.

Declaring war on drugs, Tripura Police has launched a special drive to eradicate drugs menace in West district of the State. 

Speaking to this correspondent, Additional Superintendent of Police, West district – Bogati Jagadeeswer Reddy informed that the police are working dedicatedly to nab every drug peddler and smuggler in the district. 

“We are conducting a well-planned anti-drugs drive. This drive is being conducted on the basis of intelligence inputs and also on-ground inputs. The major raids are being carried out in the New Capital Complex sub-division, Sadar and also in some areas under Amtali sub-division,” West district Additional SP said.

“We have arrested 125 drug smugglers and registered 50 cases since January, 2021. So far, we have seized around 1500 kgs of cannabis, 11,967 phensedyl bottles, 15,951 Yaba tablets, around 600 grams of heroin,” he added. 

Recently, the Tripura Government had launched “Nisha Mukto Tripura” drive, to curb the menace of drugs that has been on the rise. 

“The drive is being carried out under the guidance of DGP. Focus is more on Agartala because it is the capital of the State. We are keeping a close eye,” the Additional SP added.
