With cracks between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) widening with every passing day in Tripura, the core committee of the BJP state unit on Wednesday night held an emergency meeting at the party headquarters to find an amicable solution to the ongoing tussle.

Though the BJP leadership is tightlipped over the details of the meeting, party insiders revealed that the growing disgruntlement over the ensuing panchayat by-elections and ongoing unrest unleashed by IPFT workers in some areas of the State were discussed in the meeting.

Sources also revealed that it was decided to take up the issues with the central leadership to defuse the tension with IPFT, adding that a reconciliation meeting will be convened soon to sort out differences.

Earlier, IPFT has already made it clear that if the situation remains unchanged, the party will be compelled to reconsider pulling out of the government because part workers and supporters were humiliated by BJP workers over filing of nomination papers for panchayat by-election.

The IPFT, along with several others tribal organizations, has also resolved to launch statewide movement for separate Tipraland soon.

However, it remains to be seen how far the BJP-IPFT alliance continues in the State.
