The four walls of their house are made of banana leaves.
May it summer, winter, rain or otherwise, these four walls of banana leaves are all they have to protect themselves.
This is a another picture of modern India, where even after 70 years of independence, people in this north-eastern state do not have a proper house to stay.
Margin Debbarma, his mother Prabha Devi Jamatia, wife Golap Jamatia along with three sons and two daughters are staying in this house of banana leaves where there is no electricity, no water and no basic amenities available for a basic living.
The state was ruled by the Left Front for the last 25 years and nothing changed for the family of Margin Debbarma during these 25 years.
Despite repeated appeals, no government aid reached this deplorable family of Amarpur block under Gomati district, a remote tribal dominated region of the state of Tripura.
Notably, among the eight family members, only Margin and his mother’s name are mentioned in the ration card. Although they have a BPL card, but they did not get any housing facility.
Due to the miss rule of the previous government, the tribals of this land are deprived from the basic amenities of the life.
Now it remains to be seen, how far the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government goes to provide a decent lifestyle to these tribals of Tripura.
