Sensation prevails after the recovery of a youth’s body in a jungle in Tripura’s Sipahijala district.
The body has been identified as that of 26-year-old Farukul Islam alias Saddam, a resident of Bolerdepa village under Sonamura police station in Sipahijala district.
Villagers found the body of the youth in a jungle in front of a thermal power project and near a Border Outpost (BOP) of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Monarchwk area under Sonamura PS in Sipahijala district, police said.
“After receiving the information, we rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The youth was identified as Farukul Islam alias Saddam (26) of Bolerdepa village,” said David Darlong, the investigation officer of the incident.
According to sources, the youth was involved in a smartphone smuggling racket and had connections with racketeers in Bangladesh.
Recently, a huge number of smart phones were seized by Bangladesh intelligence agencies across the Indo-Bangla border.
“The smuggling group suspected that Farukul Islam had passed information to the intelligence agencies and the group earlier made attempts for several times to kill him,” said one of the deceased’s elder brothers, adding, “Finally, his body was found dead today.”
The place where the body was found on Saturday is infamous for smuggling.
Besides killing of BSF commandant Dipak Kumar Mondal, several other incidents of killing, connecting to smuggling, have taken place in the area in the last few years, said a local panchayat secretary.
