In a major embarrassment to the Left Front government in Tripura, slain journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik’s family demanded a CBI probe into his murder case. Addressing media in Agartala on Saturday, Sudip’s family members raised doubt over a fair investigation into his murder by the SIT.
Their demand for a CBI probe came following the incident in which three other arrested accused gave three different statements against arrested TSR battalion commandant Tapan Debbarma, the prime accused in Sudip’s murder case.
Sudip’s murder on November 21 allegedly by the TSR battalion commandant sparked off protests across the state of Tripura. Even Amnesty International, India and UNESCO also condemned the incident. Opposition parties in Tripura also declared state wide bandh in unison and incidents of sporadic violence took place during the bandh period on November 23.
