Family members of slain journalists are happy as CBI has accepted the request of the BJP-IPFT alliance government of Tripura to probe into the murder cases of the journalists in Tripura. The two journalists were killed in a span of one month last year.
Both Sima Datta Bhowmik, widow of slain Sudip Datta Bhowmik and Debjani Dhar Chowdhury, maternal aunt of slain Santanu Bhowmik were hopeful to get justice with CBI taking the responsibility of investigation into the scribes’ murders.
Members of both the families said that they were demanding for CBI investigation to know who the culprits were and why they were murdered. But the previous Left Front government instead of handing the case to the CBI had formed SIT under an IG level official of the state police.
Meantime, on Friday evening Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb, who is also the Home Minister informed that the Central investigation agency CBI has officially accepted the request of the new BJP-IPFT alliance government to probe into the murder cases of two journalists in two separate incidents.
While Santanu Bhowmik was killed at Mandwai on September 20 last allegedly by IPFT supporters while he went to cover a clash between that political party and the TUGMP, Sudip Datta Bhowmik, was shot by a Tripura State Rifle (TSR) rifleman in Radha Kishore Nagar, 25 kilometers from Agartala, on November 21 last year.
