Tripura High Court on Tuesday ordered the State Government to regularize jobs of all the teachers who are working under Sarbya Sikhya Abhiyan (SSA) in the State.

Senior lawyer Purushottom Roy Barman, who represented the SSA teachers said that more than four thousand primary and upper primary teachers under SSA will be benefited from this verdict of the Tripura High Court.

Senior advocates Purushottom Roy Barman, Soumik Deb and Samarjit Bhattacharjee argued in the court on behalf of the SSA teachers.

The case was heard by a 2-judge bench of the Tripura High Court comprising Chief Justice AA Qureshi and Justice SG Chattopadhyay.

The 2-judge bench of Tripura High Court pronounced that those SSA teachers, who completed five years of service, should be recognised and their jobs be regularized by the Tripura Government.

The SSA teachers celebrated the verdict of the Tripura High Court.

The teachers said that the verdict would permanently secure their livelihoods.

Back in 2017, the SSA teachers held a 7 days hunger strike demanding regularization of their jobs.

The BJP, which was in opposition in Tripura then had promised regularization of jobs of the SSA teachers if they were voted to power in 2018 Assembly elections.

However, the BJP made a complete U-turn in regards to their promise after assuming office in the State.

The BJP argued after assuming power said that the SSA teachers are Central Government employees and thus cannot be regularized by the State Government.

The ruling BJP had further raised questions on the ‘quality’ of the teachers.
