Satya Gopal Chattopadhyay, registrar of Tripura High Court, has been appointed as judge of the High Court.

With this appointment, the High Court of Tripura has reached its maximum sanctioned strength of four judges. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his elevation vide a resolution dated February 19 last.

A notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice said, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (I) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Satya Gopal Chattopadhyay to be a Judge of the Tripura High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

The three other judges of Tripura High Court are Chief Justice A A Khureshi, Justice Subhasis Talapatra and Justice Arindam Loadh.

Meanwhile, the State Government has appointed incumbent district and sessions judge, Sepahijala District- Biswajit Palit as the new legal remembrance and law secretary of the State.

The notification issued on Tuesday by the General Administration (Personnel and Training) department stated that in pursuance of communication of the High Court of Tripura, the Governor has appointed Biswajit Palit as new secretary to the Law department with immediate effect until further order.
