Over 500 Reang refugees on Thursday blocked roads at Lakkhipur in Dosda and Anandabazaar after the supply of food to the refugee camps was stopped.

The officials are trying to convince the refugees to withdraw the blockade.

It is for the third time that food supplies to the Bru camps have been halted in last two years.

It has been alleged that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stops food supply every time the Brus (Reangs) refuse to return.

The inmates living in the camps had earlier threatened to loot government food godowns if supplies were not resumed.

Ration supplies, cash dole and other benefits were halted to six Bru relief camps in North Tripura district after September 30 this year as they refused to return to Mizoram.

Around 37,000 people from Bru communities fled Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts of Mizoram during ethnic clashes in October 1997.

They were sheltered in six relief camps in Kanchanpur and Panisagar sub-divisions of North Tripura district.
