Railway services resumed as the agitated villagers of Dolubari under Panisagar SD in North Tripura called off the road blockade late on Tuesday night.

It may be mentioned here that the residents blocked the railway track demanding railway over bridges in the area.

Even though the locals have been demanding a railway bridge in the area for several years, however, the authorities have not taken any action so far.

Tired of the “false hopes”,  locals on Tuesday morning decided to block the railway track for an indefinite period.

Tripura police and government railway police personnel reached the spot but failed to disperse the agitating people.

With the situation going out of control, North Tripura District Magistrate called for an emergency meeting in presence of Panisagar SDM, Railway Engineer Jayanta Kajari and five members from the protestors’ team.

The agitators were asked to wait till Sunday and the North Tripura District Magistrate assured the agitators that measures regarding the construction of the bridge would be taken by then.

After getting the assurance, the protestors called off the blockade.
