A video of Tripura education minister Ratan Lal Nath went viral on Thursday, in which he was heard saying as “pig owners can earn more than a teacher”.
“A teacher can earn a maximum of Rs 12,000 a month. However, a pig farmer can earn up to Rs 15,000,” the minister had said in the video.
Nath made the statement in Mohanpur while participating in a government programme.
Reacting to the video, netizens asked Nath to shut down each and every educational institute of the state.
It may be mentioned here that around 8,000 teachers in the state were recently sacked by after a Supreme Court verdict.
Demanding for the reinstallation of their jobs, the teachers blocked the Khumulung road on Thursday.
This is not for the first time that someone from the Tripura government has faced a backlash for their “insensitive” comment.
Earlier, Chief Minister Biplab Deb also drew flak for asking unemployed youths to open paan shops and rear cows.
