Agartala: More than 10,900 people have been shifted to 78 relief camps across Tripura as heavy rainfall continued to disrupt normal life, while the Manu River at Kailashahar in Unakoti district flowed above the danger mark and several other rivers remained at critical levels, according to a report by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
The SEOC’s daily situation report, issued on Thursday, said 2,787 families comprising 10,905 people are staying in relief camps set up across the affected districts.
Unakoti district remains the worst affected, with 35 relief camps housing 6,068 people, followed by Khowai with 2,844 people in 23 camps and Dhalai with 1,913 people in 20 camps. North Tripura has one relief camp accommodating 80 people.
The report said 862 houses have been damaged across the state, including 64 that were fully damaged, 93 severely damaged and 705 partially damaged.
Longtharai Valley subdivision in Dhalai district recorded the highest damage, with 64 houses fully destroyed, 85 severely damaged and 582 partially damaged.
Officials said the damage assessment is underway and financial assistance will be provided after the survey is completed.
Fresh landslides were reported from Mungiakami in Teliamura subdivision, the Natun Chan Bari-Dasgaria Road in Khowai subdivision and Tirthamukh-Nuncherra in Karbook subdivision of Gomati district.
Authorities said the blocked roads have been cleared by the SDRF, the Public Works Department (PWD), local agencies and residents.
According to the report, no deaths or injuries have been reported due to the current spell of heavy rainfall. However, the cumulative report covering the period from July 1 to July 9 recorded one drowning death in Khowai district.
Hydrological data showed that the Manu River at Kailashahar in Unakoti district was flowing above the danger level at 24.57 metres against the danger mark of 24.00 metres.
The Khowai River at Khowai town remained at the critical level, while the Manu River at Manu, the Deo River at Kumarghat and the Bijoy River at Bishalgarh were flowing above their expected or critical flood levels.
The highest rainfall during the past 24 hours was recorded at Kumarghat in Unakoti district at 145.5 mm, followed by Khowai at 140.4 mm, Chhamanu in Dhalai at 134.2 mm, Nidebi at 128.4 mm and Amarpur at 119.6 mm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places across Tripura during the next 24 hours and warned of heavy rainfall of 7 cm to 11 cm at one or two places in the state.
