In a bid to avoid overcrowding and also maintain the COVID-19 social distancing norms, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of North Tripura district in selected performers for this year’s Independence Day celebrations online.
North Tripura SDM Chandni Chandran invited entries online between August 6 and 13 for solo music and dance contests.

“The winners of the competition have been invited to perform in the sub-divisional-level Independence Day celebrations programme on Saturday,” an official said.
He further informed that the participants have been divided into three distinct age categories- 5-10, 11-15, and 16 and above- for the solo music and dance competition.
The participants were asked to perform a dance on any patriotic song or sing a patriotic song on a social media platform and share online with the SDM with their names and age-group.

Each performance was closely watched by the SDM and a team selected the winners from each group and invited them to perform.
Nine winners have been selected for Saturday’s performance by the team.
A total of 40 participants took part in the competition.
The winners will be given trophies and certificates.
The DM also informed that on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day on Saturday, ASHA (accredited social health activist) workers, and paramedical staff in the frontline battling the COVID-19 pandemic will also be feted.
