Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s publicity, marketing and packaging caused temporary setback for the Congress. Though people were attracted to Modi’s rhetoric now they have now realized the true picture of BJP. He was addressing a press conference in Agartala on Wednesday.

Tarun Gogoi said the setback is just temporary and even Indira Gandhi had lost election but revived.

Gogoi said, “This is a temporary setback for Congress because of marketing by Narendra Modi. The way they are marketing everybody wants to buy it just like people buy paan masala.”

According to Gogoi the BJP governments both at the Centre and in the states are doing only publicity to deceive the people and have failed to keep any of its promises.

He said BJP is the most corrupt political party in India.

Raising few issues related to Assam and the Northeastern region Gogoi said, “The situation is bad not only in Dima Hasao but there is big resentment in the entire state of Assam particularly in the border with Nagaland. Tension prevails because of the failure of the central government to disclose the Naga framework agreement. The more they are going to hide it, the more suspicion and tension grow sometimes leading to violence. The demand for Nagalim which has not been disclosed by the centre leads to confusion.”

He alleged BJP came to power by dividing the people and they have resorted to the same tactics in Tripura by giving assurances of separate state for the tribals.

The former Assam chief minister further said both BJP and CPI-M are experts in enacting dramas.

According to him BJP is just changing the names of various schemes initiated by the UPA for the region but has in fact caused a great loss to the Northeast by reducing the extent of North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP)

However, Gogoi was hopeful that the Congress would surely revive and return to power soon.
