Agartala: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has posthumously conferred the Kirti Chakra Award to Late CRPF CoBRA Commando Shambhu Roy, who made the ultimate sacrifice on April 3, 2021.

Shambhu Roy, a native of Bhagyapur village in North Tripura, was stationed in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur area.

During a combing operation on April 3, 2021, Maoists ambushed Roy and his team, resulting in the martyrdom of 22 jawans, including Roy.

Having joined the CoBRA battalion of the CRPF in 2015, Shambhu had visited his ancestral home just twelve days before the tragic incident.

He is survived by his parents, Dwijraj and Anjali Roy, and his brother.

On July 5, in a solemn ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu presented the Kirti Chakra to Shambhu’s parents, honoring their son’s bravery and sacrifice.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and other dignitaries, paying tribute to the valiant commando.
