Former Tripura CM and Opposition party leader Manik Sarkar on Tuesday visited Chandipur in Kailashahar to see the vandalized statue of former deputy chief minister cum veteran communist leader Baidyanath Majumder.

Visiting the place, opposition leader Manik Sarkar said such incident of vandalizing the statue of Baidyanath Majumder is beyond imagination. “He was the man of ideologies who always worked for the benefit of the people,” Manik Sarkar said.  Sarkar was accompanied by two legislators Mafasar Ali and Tapan Chakraborty.

Vandalizing of statues in Tripura has become a regular phenomenon. Some unidentified miscreants vandalized the statue of veteran communist leader Baidyanath Majumder taking advantage of darkness and lack of security.

Baidyanath Majumder was the Deputy Chief Minister and state CPI-M secretary for 10 years. He was central CPI-M committee member too.  He died on June 7 in 2011 at the age of 88.
