A 45-year-old man was lynched in Agartala after his bicycle hit a woman at Barjala’s Mahan Club area in Agartala.

The victim has been identified as Arun Kumar Das.

The man was rushed to the hospital after he was beaten by a mob on Saturday evening but he died on Wednesday at ILS hospital.

According to sources, on Saturday afternoon, Arun Kumar Das was going home riding a bicycle.

On the way, his bicycle hit a woman, identified as Pratima Sutradhar and she fell down on the road.

Her grandchild also reportedly fell down along with her and received a minor injury.

As she fell down, the woman started screaming and a large number of people gathered at the incident site.

Then locals thrashed Arun Kumar Das in which he received injuries in his head.

After receiving information on the incident, the family members of Arun Kumar Das rushed to the spot and recovered him from the angry mob.

They made arrangements for the treatment of Pratima Sutradhar and her grandchild.

One of the relatives of Das told that they also handed over Rs 2,000 to Pratima Sutradhar for treatment and took Das to his home.

But after reaching home, he collapsed.

At first, Das was taken to GB Hospital and from there he was shifted to ILS hospital where he had undergone surgery.

In the morning on Wednesday, Das succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s family has sought justice and severe punishment for Pratima Sutradhar and other locals who had beaten him mercilessly.

Local MLA, Dr. Dilip Das visited ILS hospital to meet the victim’s family.

An FIR has been lodged against those who were involved in the lynching.

On Wednesday evening when the victim’s body was taken to his residence, the locals became furious.

They blocked the road after a team of police had to rush to the spot.
