Sensation prevails after a Tripura man killed his brother, 2 minor daughters, a passer-by and a policeman.
According to reports, the man went on a late night rampage on Friday wielding an iron rod , police said.
It has been reported that one of the daughters killed by the man was a one-year-old.
The killer has been identified as 40-year-old Pradip Debroy, a resident of Tripura’s Khowai district.
After being informed, Satyajit Mallick, an on-duty officer from a nearby police station, rushed to the spot and found Pradip roaming with a rod.
Debroy allegedly hit Mallick on the head, piercing his skull in which the cop lost his life.
After taking him into custody, the police booked the killer at Khowai police station.
He was produced before a local court on Saturday.
The police are yet to understand the reason why Debroy went on a spree.
A media report quoted an officer as saying: “He didn’t have any history of psychological problems. He also did not have any disturbance till 8 pm last evening or so.”
“He even visited a medicine shop. We are investigating the matter,” the officer said.
A report quoted a senior Tripura Police official as saying that Debroy, a resident of Ramchandraghat area, around 50 km from Agartala, went into “an uncontrolled fit of aggression” at around 11:30 pm on Friday.
With an rod, he killed his minor daughters — 1-year-old Aditi and 7-year-old Mandira.
He allegedly assaulted his wife in which she received injuries but she managed to flee from the residence.
The official said after his brother Amalesh Debroy approached Pradip and asked him to open the door, the latter attacked him with the rod and killed him on the spot.
Pradip also attacked and killed Krishna Das, a passer-by, who was travelling in an auto-rickshaw.
Krishna’s son Karmavir suffered injuries, the official added.
The cop, suffering from blood loss, was first sheltered in a local house and later rushed to Khowai district hospital.
He, along with the 2 other injured persons — Debroy’s wife and Das’s son — were referred to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital at Agartala as they were in critical condition.
Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his condolence at the demise of the police officer and paid homage.
