A bruised ego led one Kamal Hrishi Das in Udaipur in Gomti district, to kill his wife.
Das, an infamous miscreant of the area who used to torture his wife regularly, set his wife ablaze in the toilet on Thursday evening.
The victim- Sumitra Das- was three-month pregnant succumbed to her burn injuries on Friday night.
Neighbours informed that Kamal was a habituated drunkard, who used to torture his wife every day under the influence of alcohol.
Even though the neighbours asked Das a number of times not to torture his wife, he, however, did not pay any heed to the requests and warnings.
“On Thursday, he began quarrelling with his wife and began to beat her mercilessly. Then he took her to the bathroom and set her on fire by putting kerosene and the entire incident took place right in front of their two young sons,” said a neighbour.
“He immediately fled from the place. We called the ambulance and rushed her to the hospital. After battling for her life for over 24 hours, she finally succumbed to her injuries,” the neighbour added.
Police informed that Sumitra’s three-month pregnancy was confirmed during the post mortem.
The accused was arrested by the police on Saturday.
