In a joint operation, the BSF, police and forest guards destroyed ganja plants in a huge area and seized dry ganja worth lakhs in Tripura on Sunday.
Besides police personnel and forest guards, the operation led by Kamal Kumar, Commandant of 74 Bn BSF, was also joined by BSF intelligence.

The operation was carried out in the forest area of Ghatighar under Boxanagar block in Sepahijala district of Tripura along the Indo-Bangla border.
Following the well-planned joint operation, the team was able to make the largest seizure of ganja in 2020.
During the operation, the workers, who were involved in illegal activities of ganja packing attacked the joint team of BSF, police and forest guards.

“However, the armed BSF troops effectively handled the situation and fired non-lethal ammunition to stop the attacking ganja smugglers” said sources.
The joint team destroyed 4,500 numbers of matured ganja plants.
“The workers left their bikes at the site and managed to escape taking advantage of the hilly area,” sources added.
The area is just 400 metres away from the India-Bangladesh international border.
The operation team seized 889 kg of dry ganja worth Rs 44.45 lakh.
The team also destroyed 4,500 ganja plants (approximately 2250 kgs) worth Rs 1.12 crore.
They also seized 8 two-wheelers from the spot.
The two-wheelers include one Yamaha R-15 motorcycle (registration No. TR-07-9287) worth Rs. 1,10,000; one TVS Apache RTR (registration No. TR 07-C-9468) worth Rs. 95,000; two Hero Glamour (TR-03-G-6227) worth Rs. 140,000; two Bajaj Pulsar (TR-07-A 8208 and TR-07-A 4625) worth Rs. 180,000; one TVS Apache RTR (TR 07 A 8552) worth Rs. 85,000 and one Hero Maestro scooty (TR 01 AL 5252) worth Rs. 40,000.
They also seized 17 numbers of big size plastic drums, one small size blue drum and 9 plastic bags.
The total value of the seized articles is Rs 1,63,45,000.
The BSF has lodged an FIR at Sonamura police station and deposited all the seized drugs and other materials.
