Initiative to curb child marriages launched in Tripura

Commending the initiative, the Tripura chief minister expressed optimism about its potential to significantly reduce child marriage rates in the district.

Tripura minister for janajati welfare Bikas Debbarma, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury and Khowai district magistrate Chandni Chandran, the visionary behind CHESTA, along with other dignitaries, attended the program held at Khowai Town Hall.

The event garnered substantial participation from students, parents, and the community at large.

CHESTA’s primary objectives encompass preventing child marriage, reintegrating victims of child marriage into the education system to address secondary school dropout rates, and curbing teenage pregnancy.

Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha commended the remarkable efforts of Jytosna Akhtar, a schoolgirl from South Tripura district, who received presidential recognition for her advocacy against child marriage.

Encouraging district magistrates from other districts of Tripura to adopt similar initiatives, CM Saha pledged to apprise senior leaders in Delhi of CHESTA’s implementation and success.

“I believe that with the active participation of all sections of people, this initiative will strengthen the fight against child marriage,” said Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha.
