Tripura CM Biplab Deb with wife Niti Deb

Tripura Police have registered a case against a Facebook user for allegedly spreading rumours of divorce suit filed against Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb by his wife Niti Deb on the social media.

Police officials said based on an FIR filed by an individual in West Tripura police station, police on Friday registered a case against Facebook user Anupam Paul, who allegedly uploaded some documents on social media saying that chief minister Biplab Deb’s wife Niti had filed divorce suit in Delhi court.

The complainant in his FIR accused Paul of forgery, defamation and criminal conspiracy.

“We have registered the FIR. The accused has not been arrested till now. He was not present at his home when police searched for him there,” Indian Express quoted Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Tripura Police, Arindam Nath as saying.

After the news had gone viral on social media, Niti Deb took to Facebook to clarify that it was a fake news and termed the post on social media as a ‘dirty rumour’ spread to gain political mileage.
