At least eight persons were injured in a clash erupted at Baiderdighi Bazar of Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district of Tripura on Wednesday night.

The injured persons were taken to Bishalgarh hospital first and then shifted to GB hospital in Agartala.

According to local sources eight shops were gutted, several houses burnt and two vehicles were also burnt during the clash.

Police also charged baton and fired tear gas cell to control the situation.

Superintendent of Police of Sepahijala district Krishnendu Chakraborty, additional SP Joytishman Das, SDPO along with big contingent of police and TSR jawan rushed to the spot at night.

According to local people the incident started at around 7:30 pm.

Two groups of people engaged in quarrel and later the situation turned volatile.

Both the groups from ruling party BJP’s supporters.

Sources said, one Saheb Miya had an altercation with couple of youths at Baiderdighi Bazar and minor scuffle broke out in which youths reportedly thrashed Saheb.

Later a group of people from from Saheb Miya’s with sticks and armed reached at Baiderdighi Bazar and created mayhem. People from the market was also resists them.

Police told, “Situation under Bisalgarh remains in control. All necessary steps are being taken by police and district administration.”
