A decapitated and limbs-severed body was found floating in a narrow stream at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district on Tuesday.

“The body was found stuck in one of the branches of a submerged tree and floating in Ichaicherra stream at Lalcherra village under Dharmangar police station,” said Rajib Sutradhar, the sub-divisional police officer at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district.

“After being informed by the villagers in the morning, a police team recovered the body. Later the body was sent to the Kadamtala hospital for conducting post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered,” the police officer said.

The body has been identified as that of 7-year-old Rumana Begum. Rumana’s father Maqbul Ali identified the body,

The police officer said, “This was the body of a female child. One Maqbul Ali of Ichai Baruakandi, adjacent to Lalcherra, identified the body as that of his seven-old daughter.”

“She drowned four days back. The body was buried in the graveyard some three hundred metres far from where the body was recovered,” said Sutradhar.

“It seems animals dragged the body from there. We inspected the grave. It was hauled and the body was missing.”

“A villager informed us that yesterday a dog took an upper limb up to his courtyard which was put back to the grave by Ali,” he added.

“However, we are not taking any chance. After conducting the post-mortem, samples will be sent for forensic tests,” the police officer further said.

Sensation prevails in North Tripura district after the missing of the child’s body from the graveyard and its recovery in the stream.
