AGARTALA: BJP’s Tripura West candidate, Biplab Kumar Deb, should disclose the reasons behind his resignation as the chief minister a year before the 2023 assembly polls, stated leader of the opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, on Tuesday (April 09).

Speaking at an election rally in Badharghat, the CPI-M state secretary also questioned the absence of union minister Pratima Bhoumik from the re-nomination list for the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat.

“We refrain from personal attacks, but the public deserves to know why Biplab Deb was abruptly removed. The circumstances leading to his resignation as the chief minister, especially when he aspired to remain in the position until 2047, remain unclear,” Chaudhury remarked.

“Similarly, people deserve an explanation for why Pratima Bhoumik was denied a ticket in the Lok Sabha polls.”

Deb, credited with steering BJP to a significant victory in the 2018 assembly polls, ending the 25-year reign of the CPI-M-led Left Front government, resigned unexpectedly in 2022, following which Manik Saha assumed the role of chief minister of Tripura.

Chaudhury alleged a lack of internal democracy within the BJP.

“There is no transparency in their organizational processes, whether at the national or state level. JP Nadda handpicked Rajib Bhattacharjee (Tripura BJP president), who, in turn, appointed the mandal presidents,” the Tripura CPI-M asserted.

Asserting that the INDIA bloc was established to “protect the country”, Chaudhury urged voters to support Tripura Congress candidate Asish Kumar Saha in the Tripura West constituency.
