Tripura has registered 17 more COVID19 positive cases taking the state’s overall total to 271, which is the second-highest in the Northeast.
Of the 17 infected persons, 15 were returnees from Mumbai while 2 persons returned from neighbouring Bangladesh.
On Saturday, a total of 798 samples were tested, out of which 17 were found positive for COVID19.
Confirming the news, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a tweet in the evening on Saturday said: “798 people tested today for COVID-19 out of which 17 people found POSITIVE. Among them, 15 returnees from Maharashtra & 2 Bangladesh returnees.”

A total of 65 people, who came from Maharashtra, have tested positive for COVID19.
Most of the COVID19 positive patients recently detected in the state are returnees from states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
On Friday, 10 people in Tripura tested positive for COVID19, taking the state’s overall tally to 254.
Of the 10 infected persons, 8 returned from Bangladesh, one came back from Gurgaon and one belongs to the BSF’s 86th Battalion based at Ambassa in Dhalai district.
Assam continues to top the list of COVID19 positive cases registered in Northeast India with 1,100 cases.
On Saturday till the filing of this report, Assam registered 43 new positive cases.
Chief minister Deb said currently, the number of active COVID19 cases in the state stands at 96 while 172 patients have been discharged from the state’s hospitals after their recovery.
There is no report of any death in Tripura due to COVID19 infection while 3 cases migrated from the state.
