Tripura BJP MP Pratima Bhowmik on Wednesday, while speaking during the Lok Sabha session, urged the government to convert Tripura Medical College (TMC) into All India Medical Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

While raising the demand in the Parliament, the MP also sought immediate intervention of the Union Ministry of Health in this regard.

In her speech, Bhowmik praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for doing a lot for Tripura and cited examples of the recently restored waterway connectivity with Bangladesh.

“People of Tripura never dreamt that Tripura will be connected with the national capital via Rajdhani Express,” she said.

Speaking further, she said, “If AIIMS is set up in Tripura, then other states of the northeast will also be benefitted from it.”

“The present infrastructure of TMC can be very useful for converting it to the standard of AIIMS. The Centre will only have to acquire this infrastructure and launch AIIMS’ facilities there,” she added.

TMC is situated at Hapania of West Tripura district. The 100-seated medical college and was established in 2005.
