Clash between supporters of BJP and CPI-M claimed one in Tripura on Friday.  A middle-aged woman lost her life when she was attacked by her brother-in-law. She has been identified as Sitani Chakma.

The incident took place on Thursday late night at Lokkhipur village under number 59 Pecharthal assembly constituency.

Sitani and her husband Bimal Chakma reportedly deserted CPI-M camp and joined BJP few days back.

Sitani’s brother-in-law along with others beat both husband and wife mercilessly for shifting loyalties to BJP camp. Sitani was badly injured and breathed her last at Unakoti hospital.

The accused are identified as Sunimol Chakma, Jotirmoy Chakma, Sabita chakma and others. However police have arrested three in this connection and further investigation is on.

The state has witnessed frequent clash between supporters of BJP and CPI-M. Earlier on February 21, five students were injured in a clash between ABVP and SFI supporters at Dharmanagar Degree College.

According to reports the injured students were ABVP supporters. It was alleged that the SFI led union leaders of the college had threatened the ABVP supporters of dire consequences saying that March 3 will be their last day in the college. Results of just concluded Tripura Assembly elections will be declared on March 3.

Raising voice against the threat the ABVP supporters reacted and a quarrel between the two groups broke out.

The SFI leaders however denied the allegations of the ABVP members. The incident has triggered huge resentment among the locals of the area.

Two of the injured are identified as Vicky Debnath and Prasenjit Datta. Dharmanagar police immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
